OC HIGH / STUDENT NEWS & VIEWS : BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD : Relax, Critics--It Will All Be Over Soon Enough

Let’s all take a look back at last year. Don’t we all recall a little Chihuahua and a cat (I think it was a cat; it coughed up hairballs) who beat the heck out of each other and cracked really stupid jokes?

As far as I remember, nobody seemed to complain about “Ren and Stimpy.” So what’s the deal with the nationwide complaints about Beavis and Butt-head? Some critics say they promote ill-mannered youth and destructive behavior. The only destructive behavior that is going to come from the youth is toilet-papering the critic’s car.

All you complainers should sit down and watch the show, once. Even though Beavis and Butt-head laugh at the stupidest things, I guarantee they will unleash a few heckles from your uptight body. Look, if my mother can sit through a session of KROQ’s “Love Line,” which only talks about sex and drugs and is on at the same time as Beavis and Butt-head, then how bad can it be? Beavis and Butt-head are just a cartoon fad--with spinoff shirts, window stickers and face masks. Relax, it will all be over soon.

The best part of the show is that you get to watch all those old videos of bands your parents used to talk about. Mike Judge, the creator of Beavis and Butt-head, has every right to his show. The show has created such publicity that Beavis and Butt-head have been quoted in Time magazine multiple times and even in the Sunday comics. This Halloween, all the candy I gave out either went to the same two kids, or Beavis and Butt-head were the two best-selling costumes this year.
