Tom Arnold, who announced plans to go to CBS after ABC canceled his “The Jackie Thomas Show” last spring, has a new comedy in the works for this season, “Tom,” in which he plays a father of five.

The series has the family living in a borrowed construction trailer on a “farm” that’s several miles outside a small town in Kansas--and right next to the city dump.

Among other shows that CBS said Thursday are in development or production for this season was “Christy,” with former “Life Goes On” star Kellie Martin. It’s an hourlong drama, based on the best-selling novel by Catherine Marshall, about a 19-year-old who, in 1912, leaves her sheltered city life to teach at a mission school in the Tennessee highlands of Appalachia. Tyne Daly also stars.

Karen Allen and Terence Knox will star in “Down Home” as the parents of three children who visit relatives in North Carolina and wind up staying to help the family business.

Also in the works is “Muddling Through,” a comedy in which Stephanie Hodge stars as a woman who returns to her family after spending three years in jail.

No premiere dates were announced.
