Rohrabacher Defends Boy Scout Policy

Share

* Justice Thomas F. Crosby Jr. may think it’s “silly,” but the (Boy) Scouts have every right to set moral and religious standards for their organization.

The court case in question (“Scouting Dispute ‘Silliness,’ ” Nov. 17) is an attack on the freedom of religion of those who wish to enroll their children in a voluntary, private organization that reflects their values and beliefs.

If the father who’s using his twins to push his own agenda wants to enroll his children in an atheistic camping organization, he is free to do so. He should leave Christians, Jews, Muslims and others to be free to enroll their children in organizations that recognize God.

There is a fundamental principle at play here. Atheists are free to associate with people of similar beliefs in organizations which clearly state their ideals.

It is outrageous that people who believe in God are not permitted the same freedom without defending it in court.
