Utah Ends Drought at Brigham Young With a 55-Yard Field Goal, 34-31
Chris Yergensen kicked a 55-yard field goal with 25 seconds left to give Utah a 34-31 Western Athletic Conference upset of Brigham Young on Saturday.
Yergensen’s field goal gave Utah, 7-5 overall and 5-3 in the WAC, its first victory over BYU at Provo since 1971.
“This has been a burden on our back for a lot of years,” Utah Coach Ron McBride said.
Utah’s Mike McCoy completed 29 of 47 passes for 434 yards and three touchdowns. Jamal Anderson gained 146 yards.
John Walsh of BYU (5-5, 5-2) completed 35 of 57 passes for 423 yards and one touchdown, but he had five passes intercepted and was sacked four times.
