Nicholls’ Infant Son Dies After Lengthy Illness
The infant son of New Jersey Devil and former King center Bernie Nicholls died early Saturday morning in Long Beach.
Nicholls left the Devils on Thursday and rushed home to California to be with his ailing son. Nicholls’ baby son, Jack, was born last Nov. 25 with Down’s syndrome and contracted spinal meningitis in January. Jack Nicholls’ meningitis left him severely brain damaged. He was treated at Long Beach Hospital for the last 11 months.
Nicholls sat out New Jersey’s 5-2 victory at Ottawa Thursday and Saturday’s 4-3 overtime loss to the Detroit Red Wings.
