No Direct Flights to Mainland: The government intends to maintain its ban on direct air travel to mainland China for at least the next four years, according to a senior policy official in Taiwan. “We’re still not prepared” to have direct flights to the Mainland, said Cheng Ankuo, director of the department of Hong Kong and Macao affairs of the Mainland Affairs Council, the Cabinet body that overseas Taiwan’s policies toward China. Hong Kong is the major transportation hub for passengers and cargo moving between Taiwan and the Mainland.
