THOUSAND OAKS : Site of Attack to Get Added Lighting

Share

The dimly lit Stagecoach Inn Park will soon be illuminated when three street lights are installed around the park’s perimeter, according to Thousand Oaks city officials.

The park, the site of a Nov. 10 nighttime gang attack, is now lit by one light at its entrance, which has its neighbors concerned, city officials say.

“It’s very clear that the park is becoming a popular hangout for juveniles, and there’s been other problems there with juveniles in addition to the gang incident,” said Mayor Elois Zeanah, who proposed the added lighting after talking to people who live near the park. “Fortunately, here is a simple solution.”

Southern California Edison will pay for installation of the street lights, which will be affixed to existing power poles over the next six weeks. The city will pay the power bill for the lights at Lynn Road and Susan Drive and Lynn and Ventu Park roads.

The Conejo Recreation and Park District, which owns the park, will pay for the third light, to be installed where Susan Drive dead-ends at the Stagecoach Inn museum.

City officials say each light will cost about $7 per month to run.
