LOS ANGELES : Hot Line Begun to Protect Fire Victims From Fraud

Share

A toll-free hot line began operating Monday for victims of the Laguna Beach, Calabasas/Malibu and other recent fires to help protect them against scams targeting survivors of disasters.

The hot line is the centerpiece of a multi-agency anti-fraud task force of local, state and federal agencies in Los Angeles, Ventura and Orange counties. A similar hot line was set up after the 1992 riots to shield merchants and others from unlicensed building contractors, bogus charity drives and the like.

The fire-fraud hot line at 800-927-HELP will operate daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
