NHL ROUNDUP : Ottawa Beats Montreal, 6-3, Ends Streak

The Ottawa Senators scored three times in the first period and defeated the Montreal Canadiens, 6-3, Wednesday night at Montreal, ending an eight-game winless streak.

The Senators, who won only once away from home last season, have five road victories this season, two at the Montreal Forum. Ottawa’s last victory was a 3-2 overtime decision over Montreal on Nov. 13.

Toronto 4, St. Louis 2--Dave Andreychuk scored the Maple Leafs first three goals as they won at Toronto to continue their home-ice mastery over the Blues.

Toronto is 8-0-3 in its last 11 regular-season home games against the Blues, who last won at Maple Leaf Gardens on Dec. 15, 1990.

Hartford 5, Detroit 3--Jeff Reese stopped 21 shots at Hartford for his fourth consecutive victory.

Reese, who has played a major role in reviving the Whalers since a trade with Calgary on Nov. 19, has stopped 92 of 98 shots during his winning streak.

Buffalo 3, Tampa Bay 0--Rookie Derek Plante scored all three Buffalo goals at St. Petersburg, Fla., and Dominik Hasek stopped 33 shots in earning his second consecutive shutout.

Edmonton 3, Philadelphia 1--Jason Arnott and Shayne Corson scored third-period goals for the Oilers at Edmonton to break a 1-1 tie.

Arnott also scored in the first period for the Oilers. Brent Fedyk scored the Flyers’ only goal.
