COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Chapman Rallies to Beat Cal Baptist in Tournament
Chapman rallied from a 13-point halftime deficit to beat Cal Baptist, 68-66, Thursday in the first round of the Redlands men’s basketball tournament.
Greg Reynolds scored 20 points, Aaron Cornell had 13 points and Stefan Mumaw added 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Panthers (2-1).
In another tournament game:
UC San Diego 118, Pacific Christian 95--Charles Ross scored 25 points for the Royals, who trailed 60-53 at the half.
In the Pomona-Pitzer men’s tournament:
Concordia 50, Pomona-Pitzer 49--Vujadin Jovic, a 6-foot-7 junior, scored 12 points for the Eagles, who hung on after leading, 32-27, at the half. Craig Martin, playing in his first game, scored nine for Concordia (3-2).
In the UC Irvine swimming invitational:
Sanders sets meet record--U.S. Olympian Summer Sanders, swimming unattached, won the 200 individual medley in 2:01.69, setting a meet record.
Stanford’s Joe Hudepohl won the men’s 500 freestyle 4:23.18 for the Cardinal, the defending NCAA champion, which led after the first night of competition with 292 points. UC Santa Barbara was second with 130.
UC Santa Barbara leads the women’s competition with 190 points.
