It’s Who You Are With That Matters

The Scene: Wednesday night at the Hollywood Galaxy Cinema, where star Daryl Hannah and others gathered for the premiere of “Attack of the 50 Ft. Woman.” The HBO Pictures release is a remake of the cheese-ball 1958 horror film and features the same cheesy science fiction effects as the original. After the screening, guests walked across the street to the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel for a reception.

The Buzz: It wasn’t the stars, but their significant others, who garnered most of the attention. Co-star Frances Fisher arrived with her constant companion, Clint Eastwood. And though gossip columnists have been reporting that Daryl Hannah’s romance with John F. Kennedy Jr. is kaput, Kennedy was indeed there. He slipped into the screening incognito (at least, as incognito as a Kennedy can be) and made a brief appearance at the party--too brief, according to several disappointed women.

Wrong name--A photo caption in Friday’s View accompanying a story about the premiere of the film “Attack of the 50 Ft. Woman” misidentified co-star Daniel Baldwin.

Who Was There: Stars Hannah, Fisher, Daniel Baldwin, William Windom, and Cristi Conaway; producer Debra Hill; director Christopher Guest; writer Joseph Dougherty; and guests Nancy Allen, Alec Baldwin, Richard Belzer, Chris Isaak, Harold Ramis and Clarence Williams III.

Dress Code: Casual. You don’t break out the tuxedo and pearls for a movie about a large mutant woman.

Fashion Statement: Hannah looked like a ‘50s movie goddess in a sheath and beaded sweater. “The whole thing cost $20,” she announced happily.

Quoted: What does an actress say when she’s offered a script titled “Attack of the 50 Ft. Woman”? “I said--next,” said Hannah. “But the script surprised me.”

Overheard: “I’m working at Disney now,” said one woman. “They gave me Madonna’s old desk. I spent one whole day taking apart all the secret compartments, but she cleaned it out.”

Triumphs: Low attitude from the stars. Hannah ran around the party barefoot, and Eastwood was approachable--so much so that he was mobbed by chatty fans. As one photographer moaned, “Every bozo in this room is talking to Clint.”

Glitches: The main course at the buffet was turkey--not exactly what anyone wants to see the week after Thanksgiving. As one guest said, “Oh great . . . leftovers.”
