DOT Counsel Says Lorenzo Unfit to Run Airline: The Department of Transportation’s independent counsel recommended that former airline owner Frank Lorenzo be found unfit to run an airline and be denied an application to start a new carrier. Lorenzo, who has run four airlines, all but one of which are out of business, is seeking the department’s permission to run a carrier, temporarily named ATX, to fly low-cost routes. The recommendation of the counsel, whose view is not a decision of the department, was filed with the administrative law judge hearing Lorenzo’s application.
