La Habra Heights : Hearing on Change in License Fees Set

Share

The City Council will hold a public hearing at 7:30 tonight on proposed changes in business license fees to help the city offset its deficit this fiscal year. The hearing will be in City Hall.

The city charges general contractors $60 to $290 annually, based on their gross receipts. Under the proposed changes, that would be altered to a flat $100 charge. Residents who run businesses out of their homes also would pay the set fee. In addition, new fees would be charged to companies that extract oil and natural gas beneath the city. Firms would be charged $500 for each oil or gas well in use.

If approved by the City Council, the business license charges will generate nearly $157,000 annually. The city expects a deficit this fiscal year of $72,737 to $127,337, according to city records.
