The Dallas Stars had a successful return to Minnesota on Thursday night, getting two goals each from Dave Gagner and Mike Modano in a 6-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators.

It was Minnesota’s first NHL game since Norm Green moved the North Stars from Minneapolis to Dallas after last season. It also was the first-ever regular-season game at Target Center, which is trying to lure the Oilers from Edmonton.

“It was just another road game, really,” Dallas Coach Jim Johnson said.

Vancouver 3, Boston 2--Cliff Ronning scored with a 40-foot slap shot that deflected off Bruin defenseman Ray Bourque past goalie Jon Casey 37 seconds into overtime to give the Canucks a victory at Boston.

Neil Eisenhut scored his first NHL goal and Jiri Slegr also scored for the Canucks. Cam Neely and Brent Hughes scored for the Bruins, who have scored only four goals in their last three games.

Quebec 3, New Jersey 2--Rookie goaltender Garth Snow, playing in only his second NHL game, stopped 19 shots to lead the Nordiques at East Rutherford, N.J.

Andrei Kovalenko and Alexei Gusarov scored 44 seconds apart in the second period to break open a scoreless tie.

Snow, who started the season with the U.S. Olympic team before signing with the Nordiques two weeks ago, has won both of his starts.

Detroit 3, St. Louis 2--Sergei Fedorov had a goal and an assist as the Red Wings rallied for the victory at Detroit.

It was the fifth consecutive loss on the road for the Blues.

Washington 4, Philadelphia 2--Keith Jones ended a month-long scoreless streak with two goals to help the Capitals defeat the Flyers at Philadelphia.
