Notre Dame’s MacLeod Adds Another View of Knight Incident

Coach John MacLeod of Notre Dame did not get a great view of part of the confrontation between Indiana Coach Bob Knight and Knight’s son, Pat, during the Hoosiers’ 101-82 victory over the Irish on Tuesday at Indiana.

But he did take issue with some reports of the incident, in which Knight pushed his son into a chair and was said to have kicked him after the player had made a turnover that resulted in an Irish basket.

“I really didn’t see what happened,” MacLeod said Saturday after Notre Dame’s 75-64 loss to USC at the Sports Arena. “I had no idea what was going on. So, I really can’t comment on it.”

MacLeod did say, however, that reports about Knight’s former wife, Nancy, crying on MacLeod’s shoulder after the game were unfounded.

“That is absolutely not true,” MacLeod said. “I did speak to her briefly after the game, but we talked for at tops, 15 seconds, and that’s it.”
