Rookie guard Bobby Hurley of the Sacramento Kings, the seventh player selected in the 1993 NBA draft, was listed in critical condition at UC Davis Medical Center after being involved in a traffic accident near the Arco Arena after the Clippers’ 112-102 victory Sunday night.

Hurley was found face down in a drainage canal next to a field. Hurley was driving a truck that collided with a station wagon at an unlit intersection, King officials said.

He suffered lacerations and neck injuries and was examined for head trauma.

The driver in the other vehicle was reportedly driving with only parking lights on. He was taken to a local hospital. The extent of his injuries are unknown, but he had to be cut out of his vehicle.

Hurley, a rookie from Duke who set the NCAA record for career assists, has been a starter for the Kings since the start of the season. He is averaging 7.1 points and 6.1 assists. Hurley had seven assists and no points in 19 minutes Sunday.

Hurley, 22, was rushed to the emergency room at the UC Davis Medical Center, but he wasn’t scheduled for surgery.

In 1992, Hurley was arrested for driving under the influence while returning from a bar in Durham, N.C. The charge was reduced to careless and reckless driving. Hurley paid a $500 fine, did without his driver’s license for three months and volunteered for community service work.
