SAN DIEGO —
Newspaper publisher Helen K. Copley, who owns a chain of newspapers that includes the San Diego Union-Tribune, was in stable condition after heart surgery, the Union-Tribune said Saturday.
A spokeswoman for Sharp Memorial Hospital confirmed that Copley was there but declined to give the reasons for the hospitalization. The newspaper said Copley underwent open heart surgery Friday.
Surgeons described the operation as successful and said Copley was expected to make a full recovery, according to the newspaper.
