LAGUNA BEACH : Artists Displaced by Fire Receive Grants

Share

The Laguna Art Museum has awarded more than $27,000 in grants to 21 artists who were affected by the October fire that burned hundreds of homes.

“It was a tragedy for anyone who lost a home in the fire, but for an artist, losing a home and studio meant losing a livelihood,” said Charles Desmarais, director of the museum, in a statement. “We hope these grants will help jump-start their careers.”

A 5 p.m. ceremony will be held today at the museum to award the grants to the artists.

Among those receiving money will be the Ballet Pacifica, the Laguna Beach ballet company that lost its warehouse in the fire. The ballet company will receive a $2,000 grant.
