Countywide : Newport Trustee Is Elected to State Post

Share

Sherry Loofbourrow, a trustee of the Newport-Mesa Unified School District since 1981, became president of the California School Boards Assn. earlier this month.

Loofbourrow, a Newport Beach resident, had represented Orange County on the CSBA’s board of directors since 1987.

“We have the largest public school system in the nation, and the students and parents in our system are counting on us. Our job is to preserve what is great, build on what is good and fix what is wrong,” Loofbourrow said. “That’s our charge as school board members, and we cannot do it alone. It’s crucial we clearly articulate our perspectives and mobilize the residents of this state on behalf of all children.”

Loofbourrow succeeds Charity Webb, a trustee from San Jose, as president of the nonprofit CSBA, which represents 5,000 locally elected school board members throughout the state. Joining her on the executive committee are President-elect Louise Perez, a trustee of Sacramento Unified; Vice President Rebecca Sargent, a board member in the Redondo Beach City School District; and Webb.
