CALABASAS : Council Incumbents Will Seek Reelection

As the filing period opened Monday for the first Calabasas City Council election since the city was incorporated in 1991, the two council members whose seats are open in the April balloting said they will seek reelection.

Incumbents Bob Hill and Dennis Washburn both said they will seek new terms on the five-member council.

Washburn said he will address environmental and development issues in the fledgling city. “When you get this far along you realize how much more there is to do,” he said. “I have a very big agenda to get accomplished in terms of making Calabasas a better place.”

Hill said that remaining on the council would be hard work, but that it would be worth it.

“I really hope to be able to build community in Calabasas,” he said.

Others interested in running for the two open seats have until Jan. 14 to file papers with the city announcing their candidacy for the April 12 election, said City Clerk Robin Parker. Elections for the five council seats are held in even years, with three seats decided in one election and the other two in the next.

Also on the ballot in April is a measure asking voters to approve or reject a $5.7-million limit on city spending derived from property taxes and other tax revenue.

Under state Proposition 4, passed in 1979, cities are required to reaffirm such limits in the first general election after the first fiscal year of operation.
