Pasadena : World Cup Tiles to Be Sold
An elaborate “Circle of Nations” monument planned for the Rose Bowl entrance to commemorate the first time that the World Cup soccer tournament has come to the U.S. will give fans the chance to have their names literally cemented in sports history.
To raise money to promote Pasadena as a venue for additional sporting events, the Chamber of Commerce is selling the tiles that will pave the walkway leading to the monument.
Sports fans can purchase a tile with their names engraved on it at prices that range from $150 to $1,000, said spokeswoman Judy Smith.
UCLA and Wisconsin fans also are being encouraged to leave their mark on the Rose Bowl--sections marked with “Rose Bowl ‘94,” “Pac 10,” and “Big Ten” will be reserved for Bruin and Badger boosters.
Construction of the monument will begin in February, 1994.
