Northern Iowa Storms Past CS Fullerton
Cal State Fullerton committed 22 turnovers and lost to Northern Iowa, 71-57, before 812 at Titan Gym on Tuesday night.
“The last eight or nine minutes, when they put a zone on us, that’s what threw us out,” said Winston Peterson, who led Fullerton (1-6) with 16 points and 11 rebounds. “We really don’t know how to work a zone. Coach (Brad Holland) thinks we do, but we still aren’t sure about it.”
The Titans are off to their worst start since 1980-81, when they also started 1-6.
The Titans shot worse than 40% from the field (38.5%) for the third consecutive game.
Randy Blocker (24 points) and Cam Johnson (21) led Northern Iowa (4-3).
“This team is missing a lot of fired-up action,” Peterson said. “We need to let go of the nervousness. If we don’t, we’ll end up 0-20.”
