Bradbury : New Lawyer in Vollaire Case

Share

The city of Bradbury has hired a Los Angeles attorney to pursue the lawsuit it filed against former City Manager Aurora (Dolly) Vollaire last month.

In closed session last week, city officials hired Wesley G. Beverlin, of Knapp, Marsh, Jones & Doran, said City Manager Keene Wilson. City Atty. C. Edward Dilkes will no longer handle the civil suit, which seeks at least $84,000 in restitution for funds Vollaire allegedly misspent.

Vollaire was fired in the spring after a preliminary city investigation revealed she spent tens of thousands of city dollars on personal luxury items. A district attorney’s investigation is ongoing.

In an answer filed earlier this month to the city complaint, Vollaire’s attorneys countered that if Vollaire misspent city funds, she did so with the knowledge of city officials and the belief that her actions were sanctioned. Vollaire’s attorneys succeeded in their effort to remove Dilkes as attorney for the city in the civil matter.

In other Bradbury matters, two residents have taken out papers indicating an interest in running for City Council in April to replace former Mayor Audrey Hon and former Councilman Tom Melbourn, who were recalled in November in the wake of the Vollaire scandal.
