From Associated Press

John Stockton is best known for his passing ability, but the Utah Jazz guard is also one of the NBA’s premiere defensive players.

Stockton scored 17 points and had 17 assists and one steal for the Jazz Wednesday night in a 110-107 overtime victory over the Boston Celtics at Salt Lake City.

Stockton’s steal made him only the third player in NBA history to reach 1,900 steals. The others are Maurice Cheeks and Alvin Robertson.

Karl Malone scored 25 points for the Jazz, who limited the Celtics to one field goal for the first four minutes of overtime.

Sherman Douglas was short on a three-point attempt in the final second as the Celtics lost their seventh game in a row and ninth straight on the road.

Chicago 94, New Jersey 86--Toni Kukoc scored 11 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter at Chicago as the Bulls extended their winning streak to 10 games.

The Bulls have won 14 of their last 15 games, and nine in a row at Chicago Stadium.

The Bulls gradually pulled away during the fourth quarter when Kukoc made four of five shots.

When Scottie Pippen scored with 3:55 left, the Bulls had their biggest lead, 87-79. The Nets got no closer than four after that.

Kenny Anderson scored 27 points and Derrick Coleman and Johnny Newman each had 18 for the Nets.

Lionel Simmons scored 27 points and Walt Williams had six of his 14 in the final six minutes as the Kings won for only the second time in 13 road games and for the fourth time in 22 games overall. Two of those victories came against Washington.

Don MacLean had 25 points and Rex Chapman 21 for the Bullets.

Atlanta 92, Orlando 90--Kevin Willis missed 13 of his first 15 shots, then scored twice in the final minute, including the game-winner with 4.4 seconds left to lift the Hawks at Orlando.

Willis took advantage of the absence of Magic center Shaquille O’Neal, who was ejected with 3:52 left in the third quarter for arguing an official’s call.

Willis finished with 15 points and 15 rebounds.

O’Neal had 19 points and 13 rebounds before his ejection.
