Accident Clogs Ventura Freeway
Northbound traffic on the Ventura Freeway was backed up at least six miles for hours Friday afternoon in Thousand Oaks after a trailer being pulled by a small track overturned on the Conejo Grade, authorities said.
No one was hurt in the accident, which occurred at about 2:50 p.m. about halfway down the grade, said Ventura County Fire Capt. Mark Taillon.
A valve on the trailer opened when it was dislodged from the truck, and some propane gas was released before firefighters could shut the valve down, Taillon said.
California Highway Patrol officers closed some northbound lanes following the accident, then at 3:40 p.m. the CHP decided to shut down all northbound lanes while the truck and trailer were removed. The freeway was reopened about 15 minutes later, officials said.
Traffic was backed up from the Conejo Grade to Lynn Road, a CHP dispatcher said.
“It was like a parking lot here in Thousand Oaks,” Taillon said.
CHP officials have not determined what caused the truck driver to lose control of the trailer.
