USC Coach George Raveling led the Trojans’ sprint off the court while Missouri Kansas City was left hoping for a last-second foul call.

None came, and USC got away with a 67-66 victory Friday on Brandon Martin’s 13-foot jumper with 27 seconds remaining.

USC took a 65-57 lead on a basket by Burt Harris with 6:23 remaining. Missouri Kansas City then went on a 9-0 run, taking the lead, 66-65, when Vinson Smith hit a three-pointer.

With time running down, Martin, who finished with 11 points, made the game-winning basket for the Trojans (7-2).

After Missouri Kansas City (3-8) called time out with 15 seconds remaining, Tony Dumas, who had a game-high 19 points, missed an eight-footer.

“I thought it was in,” Dumas said. “It looked like it was in. I figured I had about an 80% chance of hitting it when I shot it. But it was a heartbreaker.”

Time expired after a scramble under the Missouri Kansas City basket. Smith, who came up with the rebound of Dumas’ miss, thought he was fouled as he tried to put up a final shot.

“No excuses for us losing this game,” Smith said. “But there were two of those guys on my back. My shot was altered because somebody was all over me.”

Raveling said: “Our kids reacted pretty good. As soon as one of our kids heard an official say ‘no foul,’ we ran off. You don’t wait for an explanation.”
