Cities to Get Say in Pollution Policies

Share

Complying with a new state law, the Ventura County Board of Supervisors has agreed to give cities a say for the first time in setting county policies intended to reduce air pollution.

The board voted 5 to 0 on Tuesday to appoint city representatives to the Air Pollution Control District board, which now includes all five supervisors.

“The county and the cities together must determine the number of representatives,” said Richard H. Baldwin, the county’s top air pollution official.

Supervisors Vicky Howard and Susan K. Lacey plan to meet with city officials within the next few weeks to work out the details.

If county and city leaders cannot agree on the board’s composition before July, the law requires that the board be made up of an equal number of county and city leaders.
