NHL ROUNDUP : Roy Records Fourth Shutout as Canadiens Win in Desert

Patrick Roy made 32 saves for his fourth shutout of the season and the Montreal Canadiens beat the Quebec Nordiques, 4-0, Wednesday night in the second of four games to be played in Phoenix this season.

The crowd of 11,393 cheered loudly for the Canadiens when they were introduced, but their loudest ovation came when it was announced that the Phoenix Suns had won in Utah.

Roy lowered his goals-against average to 2.31, second in the league to Dominik Hasek of Buffalo (1.80).

Calgary 4, New York Rangers 1--Rookie goaltender Andrei Trefilov outplayed all-star Mike Richter to lift the injury-riddled Flames at New York.

Trefilov, playing in only his second NHL game this season and third overall, made 52 saves as the Flames ended the Rangers’ 16-game home unbeaten streak.

Hartford 4, Winnipeg 0--Sean Burke stopped 20 shots for his first shutout in five years, leading the Whalers at Hartford.

Burke made nine saves in the final period to preserve the fifth shutout of his career.

Vancouver 7, Ottawa 2--Cliff Ronning, Murray Craven, Gino Odjick and Pavel Bure scored power-play goals to lead the Canucks at Ottawa.

The victory ended a three-game losing string for Vancouver.
