Buckeye Coach Breaks Ankle in Fall on Ice
Ohio State basketball Coach Randy Ayers broke his right ankle on Friday when he fell on ice outside St. John Arena.
Ayers underwent surgery Friday night at Ohio State Medical Center. Christopher Kaeding, an orthopedic surgeon, inserted a plate and several screws into Ayers’ ankle. The coach will remain in the hospital a day or two, Kaeding added.
Ayers fell as the team was boarding a bus for the airport and a flight to Madison, Wis., for today’s game against Wisconsin.
Assistant Dave Cecutti will coach the team in Ayers’ absence.
Ayers should be able to accompany the team to Ann Arbor, Mich., for Thursday’s game against Michigan, Kaeding said.
