The Tampa Bay Lightning scored power-play goals 65 seconds apart in the second period and beat the New York Rangers, 5-2, Monday night at New York.
It was the first time the Rangers lost three consecutive games since Oct. 16-19. It also marked their second straight loss at Madison Square Garden since a 16-game unbeaten streak at home.
Adam Creighton scored two goals for Tampa Bay. “The Rangers came out hitting and we didn’t lay down,” Tampa’s Joe Reekie said. “I think that was a key.”
Toronto 3, Boston 0--Felix Potvin stopped 30 shots for his second shutout this season, and Dave Andreychuk scored two goals to lead the Maple Leafs at Boston.
Andreychuk has 34 goals--best in the NHL. Potvin’s shutout was the fourth of his career.
Montreal 4, Winnipeg 2--Peter Popovic scored the go-ahead goal on a power play seven minutes into the third period at Montreal.
New York Islanders 3, Ottawa 3--Evgeny Davydov scored early in the third period at Ottawa to help the Senators end the NHL’s longest losing streak of the season at nine games.
