COLLEGE ROUNDUP : UCI Women No Match for UNLV in the Second Half

After trailing No. 24 Nevada Las Vegas by only one point at halftime, UC Irvine faltered and lost, 73-57, in a Big West Conference women’s basketball game Monday in Las Vegas.

The Rebels (9-2, 4-0 in conference) outscored the Anteaters, 43-28, in the second half.

Cherie Hogg had 24 points and Tonia Carter had 15 points and 13 rebounds for UNLV. Jinelle Williams had 12 points and nine rebounds and Cher Scanlon and Davette Williams each had 10 points for UC Irvine (1-10, 0-3).

In another Big West Conference women’s basketball game:

New Mexico State 81, Cal State Fullerton 61--Anita Maxwell had 16 points and Paulina Blunt and Janie Fitzgerald each had 12 for host New Mexico State (10-1, 2-0), which took a 43-28 halftime lead.

Shayla Bradshaw scored 21 and Autumn Hollyfield 15 the Titans (1-9, 0-4). Hollyfield made three three-point shots.

In California Coastal Conference men’s basketball:

Pacific Christian 110, La Sierra 67--Charles Ross scored 28 points and Ruxton Schmietenknopf added 24 for the Royals (8-11, 1-1), who led, 52-35, at halftime.
