GIRLS’ ROUNDUP : Robbins Comes Up Big in Marina’s Victory Over Santa Ana

Junior forward Shandy Robbins had a career-high 32 points and added 14 rebounds as Marina beat Santa Ana, 55-43, in a Sunset League girls’ basketball game Thursday at Marina.

Robbins’ previous high was 24 points earlier this season. Marina (11-5, 4-1 in league) is the sixth-ranked team in Orange County.

Karina Gonzalez had 11 points for Santa Ana.

In other Sunset League games:

Fountain Valley 61, Edison 52--Jen Ludwicki, a sophomore forward, scored 19 points for host Fountain Valley (12-4, 4-1), the fifth-ranked team in the county. Marie Philman had 29 for Edison (10-6, 1-4).

Ocean View 60, Huntington Beach 46--Freshman guard Jennifer Tuiolosega scored 22 points, including four three-pointers, for No. 7 Ocean View (15-3, 4-1). Monica Geraci had 16 points for visiting Huntington Beach.

Westminster 56, Rosary 47--Narita Nguyen scored 18 points as Westminster (7-9, 2-3) dealt No. 10 Rosary (9-3, 3-2) its second consecutive loss. Jennifer Chey had 23 for the Royals.

In the Century League:

Villa Park 79, Orange 27--Maureen Skehan had a triple-double with 27 points, 12 rebounds and 11 steals and added seven assists for visiting Villa Park (15-2, 3-0). Freshman Erin White added 14 points.

Canyon 52, El Modena 42--Junior point guard Robynn Kuhlmann scored a game-high 26 points and made eight of nine free throws for Canyon (10-6, 3-0). Jamie Shine had 20 points for El Modena (1-2 in league).

In the Empire League:

Cypress 86, Los Alamitos 34--Jessica Eggleston had 30 points and 11 rebounds for Cypress (17-2, 3-0). Teammate Julie Adams added 25 points and 13 rebounds.

In the Freeway League:

Troy 63, Buena Park 28--Dinah Shah had seven assists and Jennie Gadd had 18 points for visiting Troy (11-5, 3-0). Carrie Arakaki scored 10 for Buena Park (4-11, 1-2).

La Habra 53, Sunny Hills 31--Brooke Koehler and Jo Berchtold scored 10 points each for visiting La Habra (7-7, 1-2).

Fullerton 54, Sonora 31--Nadia Hoerner had 17 points and 14 rebounds to lead Fullerton (9-7, 3-0). Aiyanna Nash scored 11 points for host Sonora (1-15, 0-3).

In the Garden Grove League:

Kennedy 63, Pacifica 60--Karin Kitagawa scored 20 points for Kennedy and Holly Pawlowski had 19 for Pacifica. After trailing, 34-19, at halftime, Pacifica used a full-court press to outscore Kennedy, 41-29, in the second half, but fell short.

Heather Green and Pawlowski fueled Pacifica’s comeback drive, combining for 17 of their team’s 27 points in the fourth quarter. Heather Cunningham had 16 points for Kennedy.

In the Olympic League:

Whittier Christian 39, Calvary Chapel 36--Monique Moreno and Alana Kempton each had 16 points and six steals to lead Whittier Christian (8-6, 3-2) over Calvary Chapel (9-7, 2-2), ranked 10th in the Southern Section Division IV poll.

Kempton made two free throws with four seconds remaining to seal the victory. Blythe Linsey had 17 points for Calvary Chapel (9-7, 2-2).

In the Orange League:

Brea-Olinda 111, Western 35--Nicole Erickson had 17 points and 16 assists for visiting Brea-Olinda (15-0, 3-0), the top-ranked team in the county. Sarah Beckley and Colleen Hudson scored 18 each for Brea-Olinda, which led at the half, 65-18. The 111 points is a season high for Brea-Olinda.

Magnolia 42, Valencia 32--Senior forward Whitney Torregano had 16 points and 10 rebounds for Magnolia, which used a full-court press to pull away from Valencia in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Tigers, 13-9. Sophomore Andrea Picchi had 14 rebounds.

Savanna 36, Anaheim 30--Shannon Pendergraft scored 10 points to lead host Savanna (4-11, 1-3). Stephanie Durette scored 10 for Anaheim.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Trabuco Hills 48, Estancia 45 (OT)--Dyanna Hatch scored 15 points and Lashieka Henderson added 12 for Trabuco Hills (9-9, 3-0) in an upset. Estancia is 12-3, 1-2.

Century 38, Laguna Beach 9--Addie Alexander, a freshman guard, scored 12 points for host Century (10-6, 1-2), which led, 16-0, at the half.

Costa Mesa 51, Laguna Hills 23--Corri Lurman had 14 points and 11 rebounds for Costa Mesa (9-6, 3-0). Koo Kim and Doan Do each had 13.
