On-the-Job Injuries Up: Injuries on the job were a lot more common in the past three years, at least for local companies in a recent survey.

The Orange County Chamber of Commerce & Industry spoke with 62 companies, which reported 1,400 injuries between 1990 and 1992, the last full year in the survey. That was a whopping one-third increase.

The most common injuries, according to the report of the chamber’s Workers’ Compensation Solutions Task Force: strains, sprains and hernias; falls and slips; cuts and punctures; and stress.

One interesting conclusion: “Reducing the size of a work force appears to come at the expense of worker safety. Working harder is not necessarily working smarter from a workers’ compensation viewpoint.”
