Andrew Magee and Jim Furyk shot five-under-par rounds of 67--one better than halfway leader Dillard Pruitt--to move into a three-way tie at the top Saturday after three rounds of the Northern Telecom Open.

They are at 13-under 203.

Furyk, a former University of Arizona golfer who has played the 7,184-yard, par-72 Tucson National course more than 100 times, had five birdies on the back nine.

“I felt like I had some good shots on the front nine that I didn’t get rewarded for,” he said. “I made about a mile’s worth of putts on the back nine.”

Pruitt had an eagle on the second hole and Magee had a seven-birdie, two-bogey round.

“They’re all great players,” said Furyk, who played on the Nike tour last season. “I’m not trying to fill any shoes or be the next Phil Mickelson or Robert Gamez (both of whom won PGA Tour tournaments as an amateur).

“I’m just trying to be Jim Furyk. . . . I’m just going to go out and play a good, solid round tomorrow.”
