Police are hoping to find the victim of an unreported rape they believe was committed by a suspect now in custody, a Fountain Valley detective said Monday.

Richard Gerald Boone, 35, of Santa Ana is being held on $250,000 bail in connection with an August, 1993, attack on a Fountain Valley woman.

While allegedly committing that rape, Boone made repeated references to a previous rape he had committed at knifepoint, Deputy Dist. Atty. Dan McNerney said. Police and prosecutors are hoping to find the unknown victim, he said.

“We’re hopeful that if the victim hears about (the other rape), she will come forward,” McNerney said.

A judge on Friday ordered Boone to stand trial in connection with the August rape, in addition to charges of felony burglary, possession of cocaine and evading a police officer.

Boone has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Police arrested Boone last Aug. 30 shortly after a 30-year-old woman called police and reported that she had been raped and robbed.

Boone had knocked on the woman’s door around 11 p.m., saying he was lost and needed to use the phone. Once inside the apartment, he raped the woman at knifepoint and stole her money and belongings, McNerney said.

“He basically tricked her into letting him in . . . and she made the mistake of trusting him,” McNerney said.

A Fountain Valley police officer near the woman’s apartment complex saw Boone leaving the complex, gave chase and eventually arrested him, McNerney said.

Boone is described as white, 5 feet 11 inches, 170 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes and dark complexion.
