Severed Cable in Fullerton Cuts Phone Service for 1,000

Share

A work crew installing a traffic signal on Wednesday accidentally severed a telephone cable, leaving about 1,000 residents and businesses without telephone service, a Pacific Bell spokesman said.

The outage occurred about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and is expected to be repaired by 8 tonight.

Pacific Bell spokesman John Britton said the cable was cut by a crew working at Harbor Boulevard and Las Palmas Drive. Most of the downed phone lines are near that intersection.

The telephone cable also serves as a circuit relay, and the damage is causing trouble for some people trying to make calls between Fullerton and La Habra.

Repair crews were working through the night to fix the cable, Britton said.

Britton said the outage did not affect any police or hospital lines but did take a toll on businesses and residents.
