NHL ROUNDUP : Panthers’ Unbeaten Streak Ended by Pittsburgh, 2-1

Larry Murphy had a goal and assist Tuesday night, helping the Pittsburgh Penguins end the Florida Panthers’ nine-game unbeaten streak with a 2-1 victory at Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh allowed only one goal while playing shorthanded for nearly 12 minutes in the second period.

Florida, which holds the record for longest unbeaten streak expansion franchises, had been 5-0-4 since Jan. 7.

New York Islanders 5, San Jose 4--Benoit Hogue’s second goal of the game, late in the third period, helped the Islanders break a five-game losing streak at Uniondale, N.Y.

Patrick Flatley picked up the third hat trick of his career as New York gained only its third victory in 15 games. The victory snapped the Sharks’ road unbeaten streak at five games, a franchise record.

Hartford 2, Quebec 1--Alexander Godynyuk scored with 4:41 to play to give the Whalers a victory at Quebec and end their nine-game winless streak.

Hartford, which entered the game with only two ties in its last nine games, took the lead for good when Godynyuk fired a wrist shot from the right faceoff circle past goaltender Jocelyn Thibault.

Ron Sutter, who was obtained last week in a trade with St. Louis, scored his first goal for the Nordiques.

St. Louis 4, Toronto 4--Mark Greig and Doug Gilmour scored in a span of 47 seconds late in the third period as the Maple Leafs rallied to a tie at St. Louis.

Toronto, unbeaten in its last 11 games, had to overcome three goals and an assist by the Blues’ Brett Hull.
