PICO RIVERA : Large Housing Project Receives City Approval
The City Council has approved a controversial housing project on 12.6 acres at the intersection of Washington and Rosemead boulevards, ending three years of wrangling.
Critics said the project, which will include 116 single-family houses and 150 apartments, is too big for the site and will create traffic problems. The development is across the street from Northrop Corp. Other residents questioned the decision to include a mixture of low- and moderate-income residences with more expensive homes.
City officials, however, said the project means an improvement, replacing aging buildings with new homes. Construction is expected to begin by early next year and the residences should be finished within three years.
