Planners to Consider Outlet Mall

Share

The Camarillo Planning Commission today will consider approving a 22-acre factory outlet mall west of the Ventura Freeway, between Las Posas Road and Carmen Drive.

The commissioners will consider the controversial Koll Leonard factory outlet mall for the second time after a Ventura Superior Court judge decided that a previous development deal amounted to a gift of public funds by the city. The decision was sparked by a lawsuit brought by an Oxnard developer and a retired Camarillo businessman.

Before approving the 250,000-square-foot mall, the commissioners must first certify the project’s new environmental impact report, as required by the lawsuit.

If approved, the mall will be the second in Ventura County. A similar-sized facility recently broke ground in Oxnard about five miles north of the proposed Camarillo mall.

The commission meeting will start at 4 p.m. at City Hall, 601 Carmen Drive.
