More Rain Forecast for County Today

Ventura County residents hoping to enjoy a weekend respite from rain should get out and enjoy the partly cloudy morning today, because the precipitation is forecast to start up again by this afternoon.

Between noon Thursday and Friday, coastal areas in Ventura County received up to three-quarters of an inch of rain, while the foothills were drenched with an inch from the storm, said National Weather Service meteorologist Bruce Entwistle.

And the latest rain, which could continue through Monday, is expected to bring colder temperatures, he said. Daytime highs could be in the 50s, and lows could fall to the lower 30s Sunday and Monday, he said.

“It’s going to be downright nippy for these parts,” Entwistle said.

Rain totals for the season remained low despite the steady rain, Entwistle said. “Anything helps, but we’re still behind,” he said.

The rain combined with high winds to create problems for fishermen on three vessels, which became disabled or ran aground off Santa Cruz Island. The U.S. Coast Guard rescued seven fishermen from the boats. Two of the men were treated for hypothermia at Goleta Hospital in Santa Barbara.
