JUST LIKE OPRAH: You know those TV talk shows where you can call up and plug yourself right into the discussion? They’ll do the same thing at the Irvine City Council chambers on Wednesday, for a much different cause. . . . The council and the Irvine Chamber of Commerce will hold a joint community forum on the future of the El Toro air base. It will be televised live on cable. Officials are inviting viewers to call in during the 7 to 9 p.m. meeting to give opinions.

GO FOR THE GREEN: The annual gift reports for county officials shows that many of them love golf. Now they have a chance to get into the golf business and even make a little money for the public. . . . The Irvine Ranch Water District has invited the county to become a partner in building an 18-hole course on about 200 acres near the Sand Canyon Reservoir. . . . The proposed joint venture, dubbed as a “revenue generator” in a county starved for additional golf courses, will be considered by the county supervisors on Tuesday.

NEVER TOO LATE: Audrey Hauth, a retired schoolteacher from Seal Beach, was active in tennis, but her daughter convinced her she probably couldn’t run three blocks. “She was right too,” Hauth says. That was some 15 years ago. Hauth, now 60, has been running since. She’s one of only two women who has run in all 12 Long Beach marathons. She’s back for the annual marathon again today. Says Hauth: “It’s a great race, very runner-friendly.”

REMEMBERING JOE: A shorter run will take place in Anaheim Hills this morning. But some participants have a special reason for showing up: More than 1,000 police officers and firefighters from throughout Southern California will compete in a “Joe Molloy Memorial Division” of Anaheim Memorial Hospital’s 5K / 10K walk-run. They’ll raise scholarships to honor Molloy, the Anaheim police chief who died of a heart attack last July. He was an avid runner and fitness buff.
