Robert Kron of the Hartford Whalers scored the two deciding goals against his former team, the Vancouver Canucks, in a 4-2 victory Sunday at Vancouver.

Kron broke a 2-2 tie when he poked in an unassisted goal at 11:33 of the third period from a knot of players in front of the Vancouver net.

Kron added his 17th of the season into an empty net with seven seconds left.

“That’s as great as it can get, to get on the scoring sheet against your former team,” Kron said after his first goals in 11 games. “I got lucky, but I think I work for it.”

The Canucks traded Kron to the Whalers last March for Murray Craven. Jim Sandlak also went to Hartford later to complete the deal.

Craven has nine goals for Vancouver this season, while Kron and Sandlak have combined for 23 Hartford goals.

Florida 3, Boston 0--Goaltender Mark Fitzpatrick turned away 38 shots as the Panthers beat the Bruins at Miami.

Fitzpatrick, filling in for an injured John Vanbiesbrouck, turned away 30 shots in the first two periods.

The Panthers are 7-2-2 in their last 11 games. Fitzpatrick is 6-1-1 in his last eight and provided Florida with its first home shutout.

Edmonton 5, Winnipeg 2--Jason Arnott, a rookie of the year candidate, scored twice and assisted on another goal to lead the Oilers over the Jets at Edmonton.

His second goal of the game gave him 20 and put the game out of reach for the Jets, who are now just three points ahead of the Oilers in the Western Conference standings with 41.

San Jose 7, Dallas 1--Rob Gaudreau scored three goals and Jim Waite stopped 35 shots as the Sharks won at Dallas. The Sharks won for the 18th time to set a club record. They won 17 in their first season, and last season won 11.

The Sharks continued their recent road success (5-2-2 in their last nine games) as Gaudreau’s second goal of the game snapped a 1-1 second-period tie and triggered a run of six goals.

The hat trick was the third of Gaudreau’s career.

Buffalo 4, New York Islanders 1--Buffalo center Dale Hawerchuk, playing in his 1,001st game, scored a pair of power-play goals to lead the Sabres at Buffalo. With 23 goals this season, Hawerchuk is approaching the 31 he scored in his first Buffalo season three years ago. He only had 16 last season.

Tom Kurvers scored with 6:09 left to ruin Sabre goaltender Dominik Hasek’s shutout bid.
