City Rezones Fairview-MacArthur : Area to Speed Center Development
The City Council has rezoned 19 acres at Fairview Street and MacArthur Boulevard, making the area easier to develop as a community shopping center.
At its regular meeting Monday, the council approved the plan to rezone the vacant land, which is owned by C.J. Segerstrom and Sons.
Mayor Daniel H. Young said the rezoning would provide an excellent opportunity for quick development.
A report to the council states that no specific development plan has been proposed for the site, located on the east side of Fairview between Alton Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard.
Kenneth Adams, city planning manager, said after the meeting that the prior zoning allowed the site to be developed in two parts, one business and one residential. A single large commercial development, however, would fare much better than a smaller one.
