COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Fullerton’s Parisi Pitches Second Shutout, Beats Texas

Mike Parisi pitched his second consecutive shutout as Cal State Fullerton defeated Texas, 5-0, Friday in Austin, Tex.

Parisi (3-0), a junior right-hander, gave up six hits, struck out six and walked three. On Feb. 5, he shut out Arizona, 9-0, on three hits.

The Titans managed six hits--five doubles--off Texas pitching. Jim Betzsold hit a two-run double in the third, and left fielder Brian King had two hits and two runs scored.

Fullerton (7-1) turned three double plays.

In another nonconference baseball game:

Cal State Dominguez Hills 6, Chapman 4--Dominguez Hills (2-2) scored five first-inning runs. Paul Halpin hit a third inning home run for Chapman (0-2-1).

In nonconference softball:

Cal State Fullerton 12-3, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 0-5--Beth Queypo’s bases-loaded single drove in two runs in a five-run first, and Jennifer Mortensen pitched a five-hitter in the season opener for Fullerton in the first game, which was ended with two out in the bottom of the sixth by the mercy rule.

Cal Poly SLO is 3-3.

Chapman 12-12, Occidental 0-0--Leslie Gerbin pitched a no-hitter with eight strikeouts for Chapman (2-2) in the first game.

In Big West Conference women’s basketball:

Hawaii 80, Cal State Fullerton 71--Jenny Kaeo scored 19 points for Hawaii (16-3, 9-2). Shayla Bradshaw led host Fullerton (2-17, 1-10) with 17 points.

In nonconference women’s basketball:

UC San Diego 75, Chapman 63--Lisa Beaver had 23 points and 11 rebounds for UC San Diego (9-11). Heidi Sorour led Chapman (4-17) with 20 points.

Southern California College 77, California Lutheran 53--Sanja Simidzija had 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead Southern California College (19-6).
