BEHAVIOR SHIFT: Back before the Northridge earthquake, most folks would sell their children--well almost--for a convenient covered parking space near an elevator . . . But since so many parking garages collapsed during the quake, there’s been a mini-rush for a spot on the top deck and other open-air spaces--anywhere that’s not under a floor that some fear could collapse in the next shaker. DUBIOUS RANKING: The millions of dollars of destruction at Cal State Northridge during the Jan. 17 earthquake appears to top the list of disaster damage to befall American universities . . .(B3) The apparent runner-up--Coral Gables campus of the University of Miami, where Hurricane Andrew caused $12.5 million in damage. However, if any Civil War era cadets were still around, they might argue that the Virginia Military Institute, which was destroyed by a 7.7 quake in 1886, deserved the No. 1 spot.

But Isiah Rider, who played one year at Antelope Valley Community College, is well on his way.. . . Rider made the rookie team of this year’s NBA All-Star game festivities. In the 1990-91 season, he averaged 33.6 points for Antelope Valley.
