Share

The Santa Ana Unified School District will hold the rescheduled meeting on the proposed space-saver school at Bristol Marketplace on Wednesday .

The meeting will be held 7 p.m. at City Hall in the City Council chambers. The board is expected to decide whether to approve the $43-million project at the meeting, said district spokeswoman Diane Thomas.

More than 400 people attended a public hearing on Feb. 1 concerning the proposed school, but the board postponed its decision to seek more information on property appraisals and potential alternative sites.

On Tuesday, the board voted 3 to 2 to seek two additional appraisals of the proposed site. The district previously received a single appraisal of the site in accordance with state procedures.

Trustees Sal Mendoza, Tom Chaffee and Rosemarie Avila voted to spend $50,000 for the new appraisals, calling it a prudent business expense to be certain of the price of the property to be purchased.

Trustees Robert W. Balen and Audrey Yamagata-Noji voted against the motion, saying it was too expensive and unnecessary.
