NWS Radar Debate

Share

I am really tired of hearing and reading about the hypocritical elitists of the Ojai area.

Now it is the National Weather Service radar installation on Sulphur Mountain. These individuals complaining about the installation most likely receive far more radiation exposure from their television sets (probably big screen TVs) and natural background radiation than what they would ever receive from the NWS radar tower.

What is more ridiculous is that our Board of Supervisors is placating these individuals. The board is asking that this facility be moved to an unpopulated area. Politically, it would seem to be the right thing to do.

On the same theme, the supervisors will be considering extension of the Bailard Landfill. The Bailard Landfill will have a far greater environmental impact on the population of Oxnard and Ventura than the NWS radar perceived impact on Ojai. If we take the board position on the NWS installation, it would appear that the board will request that the Bailard Landfill extension be denied and moved to an unpopulated area of the county.

There are more pressing issues that the board should be spending time on. This is not one of them.
