GETTING HUSTLED: Local transportation chief Stan Oftelie couldn’t believe it: The March issue of Hustler magazine depicts a young au naturel couple kissing while riding on an Orange County bus. The name was gone, so it’s not like the whole world is laughing about Orange County. But to locals, there was no mistaking the distinctive striping. . . . Oftelie’s explanation: “Apparently this was a bus we gave last year to the Pacific West Bus Museum. It’s disturbing. We’re looking into how it happened. In the future, we probably won’t let buses go like that unless they remove the striping.”

GETTING KICKS: With the World Cup just months away, local soccer interest keeps growing. The new Garden Grove Arena Soccer Park, off Westminster Avenue, will be dedicated Wednesday night at 7, open to the public with free hot dogs and plenty of speeches. . . . It has two soccer fields--lighted for night games--one for youngsters and another for adults. They won’t be idle often: Ninety teams have already signed up to play.

YOUTH MOVE: There’s a new AIDS awareness symbol catching on among young people here. The dot in its circle represents the virus. And the slogan promoting it: “Where do you draw the line?” . . . It comes from the local group Art for Life’s Sake. And some 250 paper-plate copies were on display at a Sunny Hills High assembly on Tuesday. Students had written AIDS-related suggestions on the back. One plate read: “Stay young, stay home, drink Pepsi, and stay a virgin.”

SOUND DRIVING: Here’s the latest in reducing freeway traffic noise: Caltrans has put up along the Santa Ana Freeway near the Grand Avenue exit 100 feet of its new, recycled-plastic sound wall. Environmentalists are happy, and it’s supposed to absorb sound better than the usual freeway brick walls. . . . Also: Graffiti removal is easier, reducing hazardous duty time for Caltrans workers who have to scrape the stuff off.
