Donald Menchel, 61, former president of MCA TV. Educated at Brandeis University, Menchel received its first Man of the Year Award in 1985 for his contributions to the university and to the television industry. Menchel began his career at Telcom and in marketing at Time Life Films, then joined MCA TV as vice president of sales in 1975. He was named president in 1978 and served until 1989. During his tenure, Menchel moved the company into the first-run syndication business. He served on boards of the International Radio and Television Society, the Literary Volunteers of New York City, the Television Bureau of Advertising and the International Radio and Television Foundation.
