OC HIGH / STUDENT NEWS & VIEWS : Breath Test
Administrators at Canyon High School in Anaheim have decided to conduct breath analyzer tests of students at school social and athletic events if they suspect the students have been drinking.
Only students who show unusual behavior, have an odor of alcohol, have been reported by others to have been drinking or who are in possession of alcohol will be tested with the hand-held, portable alcohol breath analyzer, according to the student newspaper, the Smoke Signals.
“I don’t want to have to use it,” assistant principal John Besta said. “Don’t come (to a social event) if you’ve been drinking.”
The policy was in effect at the Winter Formal on Feb. 4, but school administrators found no cause to give the breath test to any students.
